Hap-91 Absorbable Porous Hydroxyapatite – JHS Biomateriais
Absorbable Porous Hydroxyapatite, HAP-91, is a biomaterial synthesized from the chemical reaction of Calcium Hydroxide Ca(OH)2 with Phosphoric Acid (H3PO4).
Hydroxyapatite resembles bone tissue, since bone's inorganic phase is mostly made up of hydroxyapatite [Ca10(PO4)6(OH)2].
Being biocompatible and having osteoinductive (chemotaxis) and osteoconductive (haptotaxis) properties, it is widely used as a bone substitute, grafted into regions where bone formation is needed.
When placed next to bone, HAP-91 functions as a scaffold for bone tissue regeneration.
HAP-91's porous structure allows regenerating tissue to grow within it, preventing encapsulation by fibrous connective tissue and increasing tissue growth speed.
It also provides nutritional support for tissue within its pores, producing continuity with the surrounding bone.
